About the Nodal Ledger
What it is
The Nodal Ledger is the internal ledger of the Nodal platform. Every movement of value — a deposit, a withdrawal, an internal transfer, profit, a reward, a fee, an adjustment — is recorded as a transaction with double-entry accounting: it debits some accounts and credits others, and for each asset the entries sum to exactly zero. A wallet's balance is the sum of its entries, not a number kept apart.
It is not a public blockchain. There is no network of nodes, no mining or consensus, no tokens and nothing to trade. Nodal alone writes the ledger; what makes it verifiable is the cryptography below, which lets anyone check that recorded history has not been changed.
NSCscan is a separate, read-only service. It never connects to Nodal's databases: it receives sealed blocks, checks them independently and only then shows them. It cannot move value or change a record.
How blocks are verified
- Transaction chain. Each transaction's hash covers the hash of the transaction before it, so changing any earlier entry changes every hash after it.
- Blocks. Nodal periodically seals the newest transactions into a block. The block records their Merkle root (RFC 6962), the last transaction's hash and the hash of the previous block, and Nodal signs the block header with its Ed25519 key.
- Independent check. Before storing a block, NSCscan recomputes every transaction hash, the Merkle root and the block hash, checks the link to the block it already holds and verifies the signature against the Nodal signing key it trusts. A block that fails any check is refused and NSCscan shows Verification paused until the history agrees again.
Address and hash formats
| Item | Format | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Wallet address | NDL-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX | Random, one per member, with a checksum that catches typing mistakes. Crockford Base32: no I, L, O or U. |
| Transaction hash | NTX-… | SHA-256 of the transaction's canonical record. |
| Block hash | NBK-… | SHA-256 of the block header. Blocks are also found by number. |
Addresses are matched without regard to case or dashes, hashes without regard to case (a bare 64-digit hex hash works too). Each has one canonical spelling, which links always use.
